Mangosteen juice is made from the tropical fruit known as Garcinia mangostana, simply named as mangosteen. It is a tropical evergreen tree believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands of the Malay archipelago and the Moluccas of Indonesia. Much of the suspected health value of mangosteen juice relies on xanthones. Xanthones are actually a yellow pigment with the highest concentrations occurring in the mangosteen fruit. A study performed at the Gifu International Institute of Biotechnology in Japan revealed that the xanthones contained within the mangosteen fruit inhibited growth and proliferation against human leukemia cells.
